Emerging Ethical Dilemmas: Technology, Relationships, and Practice Realities
About the Workshop:
The ethical landscape for helping professionals is evolving at a pace that ethical codes don’t always anticipate. New technologies like artificial intelligence, changes in telehealth standards, and growing liability concerns demand fresh approaches. At the same time, workforce shortages, hybrid work settings, and the rise of “TikTok therapists” are reshaping client expectations and professional boundaries. Layered over it all is a polarized cultural climate that challenges practitioners to navigate self-disclosure, political values, and dual relationships with care.
This training equips participants to recognize emerging dilemmas, analyze the impact of practice realities, and apply ethical decision-making models to complex scenarios. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to safeguard their licenses, protect client trust, and align personal values with professional obligations.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify emerging ethical dilemmas related to technology and liability, including artificial intelligence, telehealth across jurisdictions, evolving documentation standards, and confidentiality risks.
2. Analyze shifting practice realities—such as workforce shortages, hybrid work settings, payer pressures, and the influence of social media on client expectations—to evaluate their impact on professional boundaries and competence.
3. Apply ethical decision-making models to dilemmas involving political polarization, self-disclosure, and dual-role relationships, with an emphasis on maintaining professionalism and protecting the client relationship.
